These magnificent gold coins celebrate the Year of the Snake, the sixth of twelve animals associated with the ancient Chinese lunar calendar.
Each animal of the lunar zodiac is said to bestow its dominant characteristics on those born during its rule. Those born under the sign of the Chinese Lunar Snake in 2025, 2013, 2001, 1989, 1977 and every 12th preceding year, are said to be ambitious, successful, intelligent, independent and charismatic.
Meticulously struck from 99.99% pure gold, the coins are issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
The reverse of the 1oz, 2oz and 10oz coins includes a security feature in the form of a micro-engraved letter within the design. Intended to make the coin significantly more difficult to counterfeit, it is only detectable under a magnifying glass.

The Perth Mint is a world distinguished mint and precious metals refiner that is located in the City of Perth, in Western Australia. The Perth Mint was founded in 1896 by Britain’s Royal Mint in response to the newly discovered gold deposits in Western Australia. Perth Mint’s task was to refine gold ore from the mines and to strike sovereign gold coins from the refined bullion. Between 1899 and 1931 the Pert Mint produced a considerable amount of gold sovereigns which were distributed in Australia and throughout the British Empire to be used as circulating currency. British control over Perth Mint was relinquished in 1971 to the Government of Western Australia which then assumed ownership of the mint. Obverse
This is the first lunar coin’s obverse to bear the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, as well as the weight, fineness, and the monetary denomination.
Reverse
The coin’s reverse portrays a snake curled among bamboo stems. Included in the design is the Chinese character for ‘snake’, the inscription ‘SNAKE 2025’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
